Taipei Blockchain Week Take-aways
Global blockchain builders converged at renovated tobacco warehouses in downtown Taipei for the December 2023 Taipei Blockchain Week. Refreshingly, conference panelists went deep in their areas of tokeneconomics, decentralized applications adoption, DeSci, policy, and the convergence of AI and blockchain. This diverged from typical blockchain conferences’ focus on glamorizing the technology or fixating on price movements. Not once during the conference did crypto token price action come up.
Notably, conference attendees had nearly a 50–50 gender ratio, unlike other blockchain conferences. Taiwanese firms of AppWorks and Sora Ventures stood out as global-caliber Web3 developers. Japan’s positive crypto policy trajectory also earned repeated mentions, especially after three pieces of Japan businesses entering Web3: theOsaka stock exchange obtained a license for a crypto token exchange, Toyota established a stablecoin team, and ANA Airlines was building a metaverse project.
Disrupting science through DeSci
The week brought heavyweights from the decentralized science (DeSci) field.
