We say health is important, yet we avoid the most healthy thing to do. So what is it?

It’s lifting weights. It’s moving bulky things up, down, and around. It is loading our bodies with tension so that they get stronger. It’s pushing and pulling symmetrical bars of metal called a dumbbell. If there is a silver bullet (one thing that solves all) to health, this is it. A silver dumbullet.

Our communities will be better off if more of us start talking about weight training. And sharing with our friends the essentials to get them started — as explained in this article.

Getting More of Us to Lift Weights

For now, let’s spell out the virtues of lifting weights. Extolling the benefits could be worth it. We need reasons to change our behavior, not rules or opinions. What about these 11 reasons?

Lifting…Insulates Us From Stress

If we find cranky people, chances are they don’t exercise intensely. Anecdotally, weight lifting insulates us from stress by giving us enough of an emotional boost while steeling ourselves mentally. Petty annoyances can’t phase us when we’re charged with endorphins from weight training, right? We will say no to the fried food and sugary sodas knowing that they’ll erode away at the hard-earned gains from lifting earlier in the day, right?
