Bouncing Back Faster…

August 2021. Recently I became yet another covid patient. Despite being fully vaccinated and being a compulsive mask wearer. It was my first time getting it in the 18 months of this health storm, and I isolated at home for ten days.

Certain things helped me recover faster and other things pushed me down deeper into the chasm of a nervous isolation. For the sake of our friends and teammates who will get it, I put thoughts to paper so others can recover faster.

Helping Recover Faster:

  • Tangible gifts to speed the recovery. Soup. Newspapers. Fruit. Just deliver it without asking if they wanted it. Those in need don’t want to seem in need — yet they are.
  • Virtual distractions: Song links (the mind is so tired, it’s hard to find new songs, yet novel tunes can indeed enhance the mood), Netflix subscriptions, links to uplifting articles (good news helps).
  • Flower delivery (yes, trite, though it spruces up a house, where someone has to stay for ten days). Especially for guys, believe it or not.
  • Animating expressions tied to the person’s character. For example, “I know you’re tough and will get through this! You’ve been through worse!”
  • Conversations that don’t touch much on symptoms. Distraction can be a lovely thing! Bring your patient friend to another world, any world, that isn’t the tyranny of their illness. Share about your life and excitement in it.
  • Watching Netflix or Youtube videos together; help…
